Cabo Rojo (DR)
Literally meaning “Red Cape”, it is a cape on the southwestern coast of the Dominican Republic. It belongs to Pedernales Province, the southernmost province of the country.
This part of the country is known for its bauxite mines and its beautiful beaches like Bahia de las Aguilas to the east.

Between a commercial building to the east and a bauxite mine to the west is a small beach with a building on the shoreline. You may successfully anchor in twelve feet opposite the building although the bottom has many patches of rock. Despite the bauxite mine continuing its loading activities throughout the night there is little else to stop one getting a good nights rest. This anchorage is best if confronted with a strong SE wind coupled with a desire to come to a stop. It IS NOT a pretty anchorage!
But it works if you are tired. If you can make it to Bahia Las Aquillas, it is a better stop. Actually Bahia De Las Aguilas is extraordinary. If you can go the extra distance, you would have transformed a need to anchor into a lifetime memorable event.
